Brecht works on hard networking problems in Rust: proxies, gateways, protocol bridging, and performance-critical systems. Teams usually reach out to him when the traffic layer is too slow, falls over under load, or needs to support protocols their systems weren’t built for.

He is also a core maintainer of rama, an open-source Rust framework for building proxies, servers, and clients with full control over the network stack, used in production for exactly this kind of work.
